Upon arrival in Cusipata, we make a strategic stop to enjoy an American-style breakfast. Subsequently, we continue our journey by transport for an additional 1 hour and 30 minutes until we reach the community of Japura, where our base of operations and quad bikes are located. In this area, your professional guide will provide a safety briefing and a brief practice session to help you get familiar with the vehicle's handling.Immediately after, the Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley ride begins, lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. This stretch takes you through open routes, stabilized paths, and stunning Andean scenery. This segment allows you to appreciate mountains, high plains, and local fauna such as alpacas and llamas as you advance toward the Lauramani sector, the gateway to the Red Valley. From Lauramani, we start a hike of approximately 50 minutes along dirt trails and moderate slopes, crossing the impressive Red Valley until reaching the main lookout of the Mountain of Colors. At this point, you will have sufficient time to rest, take photographs, and receive a professional explanation from the guide regarding the geological formation of Vinicunca.
After the visit, we return via the same trail, walking back to Lauramani. From there, the descent continues on the quad bikes back to the Japura base, retracing the same panoramic route. Once we arrive at Japura, a hot box lunch will be delivered for you to enjoy at the base before starting the return trip.
Finally, we begin the journey back to Cusco city, with an approximate arrival time of 20:30 hrs, successfully concluding the full Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley experience.

Make the most of the 7:00 a.m. departure

This schedule allows you to start your day with more comfort. However, it is still essential to get a good night's sleep to maintain high energy levels, as the Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley experience lasts approximately 13 hours.

Manage your energy throughout the day

Unlike earlier departures, this tour concentrates the main physical activity around midday. Avoid overexerting yourself at the beginning to ensure better performance during the high-altitude hike.

Maintain a controlled driving speed (Max 30 km/h)

The speed limit on the route is 30 km/h. Following this rule is mandatory for safety and allows you to better appreciate the landscape and react to any irregularities in the terrain.

Organize your food intake

Since breakfast in Cusipata is optional and the box lunch is delivered at the end of the activity, we recommend bringing light snacks (like energy bars or nuts) to avoid fatigue before the hike.

Protect your skin during midday hours

As this tour takes place later in the day, solar radiation is stronger. Apply sunblock multiple times, especially before starting the trek to the Vinicunca lookout.

Take advantage of the midday light for photography

The lighting at this time perfectly highlights the color contrasts between the Red Valley and Rainbow Mountain. Adjust your camera settings to capture the intense natural tones and defined shadows of the landscape.

Prepare for thermal changes during the return

Even if the day feels warm, temperatures drop significantly during the late afternoon return. Keeping a light extra layer in your daypack will be very useful for the trip back to Cusco.

Manage your battery life

The Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley route is long and has limited signal. Avoid constant phone use at the start to ensure you have enough battery for the main highlights and viewpoints.

Stay focused during long ATV stretches

This tour features extended riding times (1.5 hours each way). It is vital to maintain constant concentration and not relax too much, especially during the return leg to the base.

Synchronize your times with the group

To ensure a smooth experience, respect the times indicated by your guide at each stop. This allows everyone to enjoy the attractions without feeling rushed.

The main difference is the more comfortable schedule, which allows you to start your day better rested. This departure time ensures a more relaxed Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley experience, avoiding the physical demand of an extremely early morning start.

Altitude and Acclimatization

The Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley experience reaches altitudes of approximately 5,000 m (16,404 ft). This altitude can significantly influence physical performance. We strictly recommend at least 1 to 2 days of prior acclimatization in Cusco to ensure your safety and comfort during the activity.

Altitude Sickness (Soroche)

Due to the high-mountain environment, some visitors may experience symptoms like fatigue, headache, or shortness of breath. To minimize risks, stay hydrated and avoid heavy meals before the tour. Our team provides emergency oxygen and first aid kits, with guides trained to assist you at all times.

Weather Conditions

Climate in the high Andes is highly unpredictable and can change rapidly. Mornings are typically very cold and windy, while midday often brings intense solar radiation. During the rainy season (November to March), precipitation is frequent, so being prepared is essential.

Level of Difficulty

This tour is classified as moderate to low difficulty. While the Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley trek is relatively short (approx. 50 minutes), the high altitude remains the primary factor influencing physical exertion.

Terrain Type

The route combines off-road ATV trails through dirt roads and open fields with a hike on natural paths that are mostly progressive and without steep inclines.

Real Duration of Physical Effort

The active parts of the tour are concentrated into two main moments: approximately 3 hours of total ATV riding (1.5 hours each way) and a 50-minute hike. The remaining time is dedicated to scenic transfers and rest periods.

Limited Connectivity

Please note that phone signal is limited or non-existent throughout most of the route, especially in the high-altitude ATV and trekking zones. We recommend informing family members before the Cusco Quad Bike Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley tour begins.

Recommended Physical Condition

No technical experience is required for the quad bikes, but a basic physical condition is necessary for walking at high altitudes. Travelers with pre-existing medical conditions should consult their doctor before booking.
