SOUTH VALLEY OF THE INCAS 1D
People who are interested in learning more about the fortresses should consider taking the South Valley tour.
The spots that we are going to visit, those are located in the south part of Cusco; in the ancient route “Collasuyo”, with a cold-temperate weather, between lakes, mountains, and towns with particular customs.
In this valley, we could appreciate the existence of cultural manifestations with a huge history of conquests and uprisings. We could do this trip in 6 hour approx. so, is recommended to start at 9:00 a.m. to visit Inca places like Tipón or the Pre-Inca settlement “Pikillaqta”, and to culminate the tour we will be able to Andahuaylillas Temple.
TIPÓN
Our first spot will be Tipón, an archaeological place, located at 10 km. from Cusco. It was a fundamental agricultural Center in the past. For this reason, exist 12 terraces with fertile land that are still farmed.
Furthermore, it was the first Inca place dedicated to the water deity; and they built terraces, aqueducts hardly worked, known as a “Wonder of Hydraulic Engineering”.
The most highlighted places are Intihuatana, the wall that protects the place, Cruzmoqo viewpoint and their real enclosures.
Pikillaqta is 30 km. at the south-east from the city of Cusco, where still remain the Wari constructions. This archaeological complex is a viewpoint of Huacarpay wetland, famous because of the quantity of migratory birds that visit the place each year.
In this archaeological place, you could observe many buildings of stone or mud; for example, in Choquepujio there are some edification with 2 or 3 floors. In the same way, Urpicancha that means "house of birds", it was one of the most gorgeous and formidable structures in the Wari age.
ANDAHUAYLILLAS
Andahuaylillas is located at 40 km. from the city of Cusco, this is a welcoming town surrounding by mountains and the Vilcanota river. The Colonial church is in the main square, and it is known as the Sistine Chapel of America, because of the quality of art into the place.
This church houses a collection of canvases of Cusco School of painting, that represents San Pedro's life and also, a majestic organ, golden and silver work and a baroque altar. Inside, there are also Inca buildings vestiges.
